Honest Pipes: The Path Pipe: Why You Should Own One
Courtesy: Mason Palmer
There was the rub, I still love a good old-fashioned pocket pipe to smoke my cannabis through. It’s part of my culture. As many as I own, there is still room for more if they are simple in design and in function. I still enjoy the slow motion activity of grinding a fancy, outdoor grown nug in my ancient hand grinder and then starting a sesh with this nice bowl that graces the ancient tin-topped table. That first hit into my lungs encapsulates the experience of why I like to smoke the finest cannabis in the world. I’m positive that you would love to know about all the marvelous strains I’ve been enjoying, if I could only remember them all. One I do remember is from Casa Humboldt. This strain is known as Pineapple Upside Down Cake. And when you open the jar, the aromatics of caramelized pineapple rush up to great your nostrils, thrusting themselves deeply inside your memory of what this strain reminds you of. Was it the rum syrup drizzled over the top of the cake? Each bite bursting in small rewards from the sides of your mouth? This strain has the uncanny ability to bring the aromatics of a well-baked Pineapple Upside Down Cake into the periphery of an ultra-high-end, hand- crafted smoking device. You need to find one of these and master it.
Sure I’ve been receiving many electronic devices lately and some have been really amazing like the new Firefly 2 Plus that captured my heart. But there is a time and a place for everything. And this place is about the Path Pipe, a classic Luddite tool against the electricity based existence of modern day life. The Path Pipe does not plug in. If it does, let me know where, OK?
Today I’m holding a new-old-fashioned pipe in my hand. It’s really sturdy in construction and it has some heft to it. Mine is black in color and it resembles a high end lighter, or something for an expensive German camera. The top slides back to reveal an internal bowl that’s just deep enough, if you learn to pack it correctly, (more about that in a bit). In the front of the bowl there is a poker that seems to provide two purposes. One of them is to stir the herbs, the other to tamp the herbs down in the bowl for maximum airflow. That is what is essential for a satisfying hit. There are a few learning curves that will reveal themselves as you learn the internal working of this well-designed pipe. The first is the airflow itself. Inside the handsome and well built case there is a serpentine path that the smoke will eventually follow. It cools the smoke, making for an easy to enjoy experience. Your sesh will be one of pleasure, instead of a hacking cough to contend with. There are other pipes on the market that offer similar edification on the smoothness of the smoke. You don’t have to be a Genius to know this market has some viable contenders to this end. But the Honest Pipe seems to do it one better. The path is deeper that the competition. I find that the Genius Pipe doesn’t have a deep enough bowl. And cleaning the Genius Pipe is no holiday. The Honest/Path Pipe is quite easy to clean with deep grooves to hold alcohol or just run through the dishwasher. Pro Hint: Take out the internal tamper before you run the pipe through the dishwasher, it’s easy to lose otherwise. Packing the Honest Pipe requires a tiny bit of a learning curve. You don’t want to over pack it, yet you must tamp down the smoking materials with the helpful, internal poker. If the herb is too fluffy, tamp it down. If it’s not fluffy enough? Tamp it down. Stir it a bit, tamp it down. You’ll see. It’s pretty easy to get lost in the minutia, but as long as you keep an open mind, this will quickly become your go/to in the portable, cooling smoke, easy to love category. And that learning curve? What learning curve?
I tested my Honest/Path Pipe with the above-mentioned cultivar and was stunned by the depth and the scope of the terpenes that revealed themselves in each lung-filling hit. The real flavors of the cultivars is exemplified by just a touch of fire. May I recommend using a natural beeswax coated, hemp wick? It will reward you in ways not yet discovered. And my favorite strain? That would be the one offered by dear friends who know I appreciate noodles and gravy over pasta and sauce.
The Honest/Path Pipe is just that. An honest way to enjoy cannabis in a manner that won’t burn your tongue or your throat. The draw is smooth and aromatic with wonderful airflow. There is a certain richness that allows the user to really taste the qualities of the strain. This is a pipe that will last you for years. It’s a durable beast as well. I dropped mine on on a brick driveway and it didn’t damage it at all. Tough as the material from which it was cast. This is a fine pipe. I dig it.
Here is my review on their website:
Better than the Genius Pipe and here’s why.
Warren Bobrow (Author: Cannabis Cocktails & Forbes Cannabis writer) on Apr 22, 2019
I was a Genius pipe convert. Have a half dozen of them, a fine creation that doesn’t quite do what it’s supposed to do. But here is the Smoke Honest Pipe. It’s minimalist, substantial in the hand and very well constructed. It reminds me of my Leica M8. Solid construction. And the smoke? It’s lovely. Cool and nonabrasive to my throat. I’m thrilled to use the pipe, it’s so easy to enjoy- and cleaning is a breeze. it doesn’t show fingerprints either. The handy poker could be a bit longer, or made from silicon. That might make it less likely to drop and lose. No matter, this little pipe is perfect. Thank you.
