Hey folks - I apologize if this topic has been beat like a dead horse several times over but I'm preparing to run my first hydroponic set up. I've got a few fellow growers near me running different types of DWC setups and I'd like to ask the general masses here at RIU to guide me in the right direction. I was originally thinking a RDWC system consisting of a res and 4 bucket sites. Nice and simple but you've also the need for an air pump, stones, water pump.

Now I've got a friend that runs and grows in a single res about 4x4 and 1' deep. He has 9 net pot sites built on top of his res and uses nothing but 5 air stones to keep the water oxygenated. He claims to go a full 3-4 weeks between res changes and has eliminated the need for a water pump to transfer water from sites and reservoir. I've looked on the net and can't find much info for such a system apart from small veg/clone tables. The multi plant system my friend runs is much the same as a clone set up but a bit larger and without a water pump (only for draining and filling his tank). I've seen colas the size of my arm the way he was doing it. The results are there but I'd assume there's much less DO available as with a recirculating system with a res. I was worried myself about roots getting entangled and choking out the smaller plants. Originally I was planning on a 4 site 5 gal bucket set up but would it be more advantageous to go with say 10gal totes? ideally I'd like to grow 4 plants scrogged in the 4x4. I'll lose about 1.5' of height with the totes or buckets so I can really only grow up to about 4' tall. I'm just about ready to press the purchase button on Amazon. 550GPH inline pump and I've got a air pump picked out in the 15LPM range. The only beef I have running DWC single sites is the PITA it's going to be to change water. I will teach you the easiest way to get a pound or close to it from your 600 watts by going drain to waste (pot + pro-mix + GH 3 parts) if you are willing. I will help you with any problem you have through the first harvest. The offer is there, no secret sauce, just really basic growing knowledge. I also always had great success with using one big ass box for dwc that can hold around 17 gallons with 4 plants with an access hole in the middle for daily top-offs instead of round buckets. Either Lowes or Home Depot sells them with the yellow covers.

Instead of dealing with 4 buckets you only have to deal with one box. In a 4x4 tent you could use a single Rubbermaid tub for a few plants and ScroG the lot. Easy-peasy except for keeping the temps down in the tub. Not looking to grow monsters but at least 4ft heavily trained plants.
