New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

Received my new Novakon ServoPulsar CNC mill and already have it running and cutting parts. I received the Pulsar with the optional Servo drives and fourth axis. The overall quality of the machine is excellent. I was able to fully assemble the Pulsar in less than two hours. The Pulsar was shipped with the mill and stand assembled. You only have to assemble the cooling tray and install the four adjustable feet to level the stand. The electric cabinet is easily accessible and the wiring is neatly organized with many of the cables having plugins terminals for easy removal of components. The electronics included the Smooth Stepper Board and so far, I have not had any Mach3 lockups. I really like the newly designed stand, the separate pump for the wash down system and the powder coated paint. The Mill is accurate to .001” XYZ axis movement and one RPM incremental spindle setting as shipped.

I will post more on the NovakonPulsar CNC Mill at a later date as I am very busy in the work shop.

I’d love to see some videos of that machine running. I hope you put some videos on your YouTube channel.

The dark white and light black color scheme sure looks good!

FWIW – I’ve found the Pulsar will do almost anything the Torus Pro will. In terms of cutting capability, the two machines are pretty close to equal, expect for work envelope, and spindle speed (4500 RPM vs 6000 RPM). And, of course, the Pulsar does rigid tapping, while the Pro does not.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

Welcome to the growing Pulsar group. Glad you’re finding it to be everything you expected.
I still can’t get over the 5 second tool changes with the lever draw bar, not to mention the rigid tapping.
Unless I need the larger work envelope, the Pulsar is simply a more comfortable size particularly when you are vertically challenged.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

I have been testing the capabilities of the Novakon Pulsar CNC Mill and must say that the machine is exceptional. It is gentle enough to cut a narrow slot using a 1/16” two flute end mill and powerful enough to cut a pocket using a 1 1/8” two flute end mill. The ability of the machine to perform rigid tapping makes it unique in its price range. I love the ability to control the spindle rotation within one RPM.

The attached video shows the Novakon Pulsar CNC Mill in action. I’m curious to see if anyone can identify the part that is being machined. The answer and additional pictures of the finished part will be provided in a later post.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

I must be the only dummy here, I have no idea what that is. I’ve seen it somewhere before, but can’t quite put my finger on it.

Assuming the material is corian i’d guess door handles.

mounts for round lights or sconces is my guess.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

They look really familiar, but I can’t quite put my finger on it.

I know But only because Igak mentioned it to me before he posted the video.
I am predicting no one will guess correctly.

The part is used to hold candle wick(s) when pouring hot wax into a jar. The wick holder self centers in various size jars. The center hole would be used for a single wick candle whereas the picture shows a two wick candle.

    Darn!
Being a CNC junkie I should have known what that was!
Congrats on the Pulser and welcome to the NOVAKON family.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

While I admire your dedication, machining by candlelight is quite impractical. How do you plan on powering the Pulsar?
Perhaps you could spray the tools with a florescent paint.

    Sorry I couldn’t resist.

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

I see the pulsar has a 1.2kw servo spindle motor. Does anyone know if it has any gearing between the motor and the spindle?

Re: New Novakon Pulsar with optional Servo Drives for XYZ Axis

Yes. Sort of. Not literally. Both it and the Torus are identical there. The motor and spindle have steel timing pulleys and there is about an 11/16″ width timing belt on it. Trade number HTD540-5M.
The gearing is 1.5 to 1. The spindle motor turns at max 3000 which gives 4500 at the spindle.
Just happened to have a spare sitting on my desk. Typical spare part item to stock. Doubtful that it would be needed anytime soon.
