What bullshit story is holding you back?
Are you convinced that you have ‘bad genes’?
That you will always have ‘mobility issues’?
Do you believe that you’ll always hate running or that you’ll never be strong?
Or think that you have a sweet tooth and will never be able to escape it?
These are bullshit stories.
We all tend to collect BS stories about ourselves over time.
Sometimes it is because we were told these things as children. Or other ‘experts’/people we looked up to told us and we believed them.
Sometimes it is because of a series of events and we created the narrative to help us make sense of the situation.
Other times, these stories were completely true… AT THE TIME (but not necessarily anymore).
It is generally a good idea to reflect on 1-2 of these stories a few times per year.
Try to get a new perspective. Change the narrative.
Maybe you have relatives who don’t exhibit the traits you want, but maybe it is just the fact that you haven’t found the right combination of activities/habits/foods that work for you.
Maybe you are ‘tight’, but have you worked with a coach on a regular stretching and mobility routine and stuck to it for 6 months?
Have you learned proper running form so it isn’t as uncomfortable, and then practiced regularly? Or have you found a place to run that you enjoy? Or a person you enjoy running with?
Have you dedicated a full year to a properly designed strength program? Or consistently made strength an important part of your weekly routine?
Maybe your ‘sweet tooth’ is because of your diet, and not the other way around? Have you tried giving up sweets and sugar for a solid month (the time it supposedly takes for your taste buds to regenerate)?
Determine an area in your life where you feel stuck or have been stymied in the past.
Is there a bullshit story behind it?
Maybe it is time to flip the script. Time for a re-write.
Turn those bullshit stories into success stories.
