Large pipes are connected to a Water Pump Station to transport water. They are meant to be used as the main transport method for water to reach other areas of your prison, from the Water Pump to local distribution points. Small Pipes then carry water locally such as within rooms, to items requiring individual water connections like Toilets, Sinks and Showers.
The large pipe main branch can be at most 761 tiles. This main branch was the shortest path that water could travel the most distance. This main branch does not care about the amount of water utilities it is supplying nor does it care about any secondary branches that feed off it. Water will always flow away from the main branch.
However, water pressure is reduced long before these 761 tiles. Low water pressure limits the range of small pipes.
Large pipes can be used by prisoners to escape. Tunneling prisoners will tunnel towards these pipes as pipes allow prisoners to escape faster than digging through walls. To avoid this, use small pipes to bring water into your rooms and use large pipes in the outside areas of your prison only.
Pipes can not be built through a Perimeter Wall (or Water), and building a Perimeter Wall over any existing pipe will remove it. When large pipes are build over small pipes, they will automatically replace the small ones. Otherwise building small pipes over large ones is not possible without dismantling them first.
If the Events option is activated in the game, random pipe pieces may burst occasionally. You will have to rebuild them then.Large Pipe Large pipes are connected to a Water Pump Station to transport water.
