How to Roll the Perfect Joint

Apprehensive about rolling a joint? Have no fear; our concise step-by-step guide will teach you exactly what to do, with tips, tools, and recommendations to make the process easier.

For maximum enjoyment of a prime strain of cannabis, knowing how to roll the perfect joint is key. For a smooth smoke, it should have a shape that allows it to burn evenly. Rolling a good one takes skill, but we will gladly show you how to get the hang of it. Additionally, we have some useful recommendations for rolling papers and tools to make it easier. By following our step-by-step guide below, you will master the art of rolling joints in no time.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO ROLL A JOINT

Before we get started with the instructions, here’s a list of what you’ll need:

• Your favourite strain of weed
• Rolling papers
• Crutch/filter
• Pen or similar object, to pack the joint
• Grinder
• Rolling tray

STEP 1: BREAK UP YOUR MARIJUANA

If you are using high-grade cannabis such as ours, simply feeling it between your fingers will begin to release its sweet smell. Although you could go at it with your hands, we recommend breaking your bud up into a suitable size using a quality grinder. This method saves time, plus it will prevent your fingers from getting too sticky to roll the paper later. You want to render your bud down into small particles, but not into dust. This will allow for optimal airflow and burn rate.

STEP 2: CREATE A CRUTCH FOR THE JOINT

A crutch is basically a mouthpiece for your joint, also referred to as a filter or tip. Some smokers may say a crutch is unnecessary or optional, but we strongly recommend it. A crutch:

• assures the end of the joint remains open
• prevents you from burning your fingers or lips while smoking
• prevents anything from falling out of the joint
• keeps the shape of the joint sturdy
• makes smoking easier by increasing airflow through the joint

You can make crutches out of thick paper or thin cardboard, like most business cards are made of. For long rolling papers, a piece of approximately 5.5 x 1.7cm will suffice. You can also buy special crutch paper, and many rolling papers already come with some.

While a lot of people simply roll the crutch paper into a cylinder, this method leaves a hole that might let weed fall through or get pinched closed while smoking. Therefore, it’s better to make a few accordion folds at one end before rolling the rest completely around it. Make as many folds as you want the width of the final crutch to be.

STEP 3: FILL UP YOUR JOINT

There are many types of rolling papers—have your pick. We recommend our organic hemp papers because they’re thin yet sturdy, assuring your joint burns evenly and the aroma of your strain is unaffected. Moreover, they come with filter papers as well.

Take out your rolling paper and hold it so the glue side is facing your feet and the fold is in your direct sight. Fold the paper gently in the opposite direction and roll it between your fingers gingerly until it retains the shape you need.

Place the cannabis in your paper with one hand, distributing it in such a way that there is less at the end where the crutch is going to be. You want to end up with a cone-shaped joint later. Straight joints are easier to roll, so for your first attempts, this is fine too. Ultimately, a cone-shaped joint will offer a way smoother smoke.

STEP 4: ROLL YOUR JOINT

Holding your paper containing the cannabis, start rolling it gently as you move your fingers from left to right to distribute the particles evenly. Insert your crutch from Step 2 into one end of the paper and then get to rolling. Make sure your fingers are near the filter. The closer together they are, the better.

Roll the paper back and forth to ensure the edge of the paper crosses over the crutch. You’re on your way to the perfect joint now! To make things easier, you can use our handy wooden rolling tray. It’s the perfect size for rolling joints and will catch any cannabis that might fall out. This way, you won’t need a table as you can just sit the tray on your lap.

STEP 5: LICK AND SEAL YOUR JOINT

Once you’ve rolled back and forth enough for the shape of the joint to appear, it’s time to close and seal it. Continue rolling between your fingers until the paper is pulled tight and the edge can be easily folded in with the tip. Roll until the glued side is just tucked slightly underneath the unglued side. Then, lick thoroughly through the outer layer to hit the glue layer, sealing up the sides and leaving the end open.

Make sure you do the tucking and sealing along the length of the joint slowly and gently. To prevent smoking too much paper, you can burn off the excess after sealing it. You don’t want to seal it up too tight, as it will be very hard to draw in smoke and take a hit. If it’s rolled too loose, though, it will burn unevenly or too quickly.

STEP 6: PACK YOUR JOINT

To ensure a smooth and even burn, you should now pack the joint. Use the pen (or any other object that will do the trick) to carefully press down the cannabis through the open end. You can also put back in anything that fell out earlier, or simply save it for another time. While holding the joint upright from the filtered end, gently tap it on a flat surface to compact the cannabis and push the crutch in for reinforcement.

STEP 7: TWIST THE END OF YOUR JOINT

Seal the open end by twisting the extra paper so it resembles a candle wick. This way, there is no possibility for any weed to fall out. You can keep your joint stored away like this if you are not going to smoke it right away. Once you are ready to smoke, the twisted end will be your lighting point.

STEP 8: LIGHT AND ENJOY

At this point, you are ready to indulge in your smoke. Now there is nothing between you and the sweet cannabis you just rolled. All you have to do is light it and enjoy. Your joint tastes the best the first time it’s lit. Therefore, try to smoke it all at once and not relight it. Relighting is bad for the taste, and we want you to enjoy every single puff so you get the most from your buds.

STEP 9: SHARE YOUR JOINT

For an even better experience, share your joint with some friends. Not only will it prevent you from having to relight it later, but you will have the chance to really take in its aroma and effects while you are waiting in-between turns. Lastly, it’s just a lot more fun to enjoy the high with your mates. Good times ahead!

If you want to learn how to roll the perfect joint, follow our step-by-step guide for tips and tricks to make the process as simple as possible.

Joints are one of the most popular ways to consume cannabis. There are several different types of joints in the world of weed, and a variety of methods to make them. Rolling a joint can be a highly personal, intricate craft, but with a few simple steps, any new toker can roll their very own. Read on to learn about the art of rolling a joint.

What is a joint?

A joint is a cannabis cigarette often hand-rolled by an individual. Some dispensaries offer prerolls, or joints rolled in-shop, for consumers to purchase, saving a few steps. A cannabis joint that includes both cannabis and tobacco is called a spliff, while a blunt is a joint rolled with heavy, dark, tobacco papers.

What you need to roll a joint

To roll a joint, you’ll need to assemble a handful of essential materials. First, select your favorite cannabis strain and set aside the amount of flower you want to smoke, typically about a third of a gram. Use a grinder to break apart your bud evenly. A rolling tray will help you keep your workspace neat and tidy.

Round up your joint paper of choice. Dispensaries and smoke shops offer hemp, unbleached paper, and other materials to fit various preferences. Grab a filter, also called a crutch, or a thick piece of paper to create one, and you’ve got everything you need to roll a joint. If you don’t have a glass crutch handy, it’s easy to make a crutch on your own.

How to roll a joint

Step 1: Grind the cannabis

Use a grinder to grind up and separate the flower evenly. A grinder produces a consistent size and texture, which provides a smoother, more even smoke. If you don’t have a grinder, pick the bud apart with your fingers. Make the pieces more or less the same small size and work gently to minimize damage to the cannabis’ trichomes.

Step 2: Make a crutch

Many smoke shops sell pre-made crutches to serve as the mouthpiece of a joint. While crutches aren’t essential, they help reinforce the mouthpiece and make a joint easier to hold. Crutches also boost the airflow through a joint and minimize the risk of burning your lips or inhaling tiny bits of marijuana during a hit.

To make a crutch, fold a piece of thick paper or cardstock into an accordion shape then wrap the last bit of paper around the accordion part. Photo by: Gina Coleman/Weedmaps

To make a crutch, grab a piece of thick paper or cardstock and rip off a rectangle-shaped strip about the width of your joint’s mouthpiece. Fold most of the paper into an accordion shape then wrap the last bit of paper around the accordion part.

Step 3: Load the joint

Lay the rolling paper on the tray with the adhesive side facing away from you. Position the crutch where you want the mouthpiece to be and sprinkle marijuana onto the paper. Evenly spread the flower throughout the joint and avoid overstuffing it.

To roll a cone joint, sprinkle less weed near the mouthpiece and more towards the tip, tapering as you move.

Step 4: Roll the joint

It’s finally time to get rolling. Use your thumb and index finger to pinch the paper into a taco shape, sifting the paper back and forth to distribute the bud evenly. It’s okay if some flower falls out,you can stuff it in later. Work the weed into a cylinder shape, not so loose that it burns unevenly and not so tight that it restricts airflow.

Tuck one side of the rolling paper into the joint and slowly roll it back towards the adhesive side, tucking in the bud as you go. Lick or wet the sticky adhesive and start at the mouthpiece end to slowly seal the joint.

Once it’s sealed, grab a pen, toothpick, or another long cylindrical object to pack down the cannabis towards the mouthpiece. This is where you can add back any weed lost during the rolling phase.

Why do people like joints?

Cannabis consumers love joints for a wide variety of reasons. For many, joints serve as the entry point into the cannabis world and smoking. Some like the way terpenes smell as the joint smoke spirals into the air. Others appreciate the fact you only need to spark up once to enjoy a joint, compared to the constant lighting of a pipe or the heavy-duty torching that dabs require.

Joints are also highly mobile, easy to share in a group setting, and easy to store if you want to smoke some and save the rest for a later day. According to an analysis by the RAND Corporation, an average joint fits about 0.32 grams of weed, making it a potent cannabis experience for an individual or enough for everyone when shared in a session. When completed, there’s little to clean up except for the roach and some ash.

Many joint rollers find the process of crafting joints therapeutic and consider the ritual an essential part of their consumption process.

Why do people hate joints?

Joints aren’t the most efficient way of consuming weed, and many users choose other methods to stretch their budget and maximize the experience of their bud. If you don’t smoke a joint fast, the flame on the tip will burn off precious trichomes and terpenes. Joints aren’t the best choice for marijuana consumers seeking a leisurely, lengthy smoking session.

The Original Six Shooter Pipe

High Tech PRESSES

The ORIGINAL, World Famous and Patented Six Shooter Pipe.

In 1999, the movie business slowed down and Jake Lee, the CEO and designer of High Tech Presses and Pipes, invented and began to market the Original Six Shooter Pipe, which was a revolutionary pipe he created in the machine shop at Jim Henson’s creature shop. He decided that this was the perfect time and his chance to offer the greatest invention in pipes smoking since smoking began!

What he had created in the Six Shooter Revolver Pipe was a tobacco pipe with six chambers that spins around like a gun revolver. The idea behind the six chambers is to make it so the need to constantly refill your pipe is eliminated. You’ll always have a fresh bowl on hand and at the ready with six bowls in the
pipe instead of just one, which is all you get with the classic, common, standard pipes.

Lee received a U.S. patent on the invention and built a business around it. With no experience in marketing or small business, he sold 10,000 units and won several awards overseas, garnering much attention here in the United States as well. In fact, this revolver pipe has been such a hit that you can visit the original pipe at the Musee du Fumeurin Paris, France.

Add the Patented Six Shooter Revolver Pipe to Your Collection

Sometimes known as shooter revolver pipes, grinder six shooter pipes, stealth pipes, the six metal pipe, or the classic revolver pipe, the Six Shooter pipe is perfect for use with your favorite herb grinders. If you normally use rolling papers and another type of tobacco pipes for smoking, you’ll love the original Six Shooter Revolver Pipe. You may already have hand pipes that are metal, and you may already have glass bongs, wood pipes, vaporizers, bubblers, and hookah pens – but if you don’t have the Original Six Shooter Pipe, your collection isn’t complete.

The original Revolver Pipe is made in the USA using only the finest materials! Machined from high-quality aircraft aluminum, naval brass, and stainless steel, the Six Shooter Pipe is hands down the best pipe you could own. Why settle for sub-par quality and cheap materials when it comes to something that is as important as your tobacco pipe?

For that matter, why settle for any pipe with just one bowl in it? Load 1-6 bowls at a time! The Six Shooter Pipe comes with a velvet pouch for storage and a tool for easy disassembly so cleaning is easy and fast. The unit features one recessed screen port that serves all six bowls. The Six Shooter Pipe is incredibly easy to clean and does not get hot when smoking. This is a must-have pipe for any collection.

And, to fit each unique bong, each glass downstem we sell is made with varying joint measurements, from 18/18MM to 18/14MM.

How to Shop for a Downstem

If you’re interested in purchasing a glass downstem, there are some important things to consider prior to purchasing. Make sure you think about the following questions before adding one to your cart:

“What Size Downstem Should I Order?”

Generally, a bong downstem will have a joint size of 14MM, 18MM or even 10MM. The joint size must be a snug fit that keeps an air-tight seal while smoking. However, you should also consider the length of the bong downstem itself. Your downstem should be long enough to hit the water and produce bubbles upon inhalation. If it also hits the base of the bong, this is too long and you won’t get the same effects from using the right size.

“Should I Order a Downstem Diffuser?”

A diffuser is optional, but it can attach to your downstem to produce smaller bubbles. These tiny bubbles create smoother draws, so you can enjoy each puff with less harsh results.

“Can My Water Pipe Use a Downstem?”

If you have a pipe with a male joint, you cannot add a downstem. These will only fit into bongs with female joints.

Don’t skimp out on subpar quality– our TAG downstem products are designed for reliability and customer satisfaction. Shop our bong stem inventory today!

The 15 Best Grinders That’ll Prevent You From Ruining Your Good Weed

There’s no sense in holding onto a crummy grinder when there are plenty of better options out there.

Sans a decent grinder, you might as well chop an entire gram in two, stuff one half as is into a rolling paper, and throw the other half into the garbage. Good grinder blades will seamlessly cut through your dry herb, sifting out the bad chunks and preserving the extra-potent pollen. They’ll create a little mound of fine, fluffy weed to roll, vape, or hell, bake into a cake. No dirty smoke, no lost product, not a bit of that eighth wasted.

You can seriously invest in this kind of accessory if you want, but you can also find some solid, inexpensive options. These 15 weed grinders—many of them with four pieces to grind bud, sift pollen, and store the results properly—each have their own strengths. One ought to suit your cannabis-consuming ways. And we’ll take the opportunity now to pair this guide with an always-timely reminder to smoke responsibly. We don’t mean legally (we’re no sticklers for the word of the law when that law itself is outdated and discriminatory). We mean, choose to support grassroots legalization and social justice efforts in the cannabis industry, and buy from dispensaries owned by minorities and companies that give back to communities when possible. Now, onto the grinders.

Just because it’s cheap doesn’t mean it’s crap. This zinc alloy grinder comes with five pieces—including two mesh screens to sift pollen from your weed, and a little scraper to use for the catch tray so not a speck is wasted—with sharp teeth and a magnetic seal. If it seems too large, then remove a mesh screen to shorten it.

Only 1.5 inches across, this grinder is an inexpensive and downright tiny means of readying cannabis bud to smoke. It’s not what we’d call “heavy-duty,” but it’s a decent grinder to have for traveling, in addition to a sturdier grinder for regular, at-home use.

The Kingtop grinder is nearly as big as the palm of your hand, great for when you have a considerable amount of bud and don’t need to be discrete. Its four pieces include a magnetically sealed cap, a grinder, a mesh screen, and a catch tray—a big one, at that—and its 45 teeth ensure smooth grinding.

Mendo Mulcher makes some tough grinders—all out of solid, aircraft-grade aluminum—but this one might be the most useful. At only 1.75 inches across, it’s best for travel, and its extra-grippy construction ensures you won’t slip up while using it despite its small size. With only two pieces, you’re short a mesh filter. But it does have a cool, hardware quality to it.

This grinder has a lotta happy customers. Makes sense. It grinds weed evenly and with precision, it’s built like a tank, it has a mesh screen and strong magnetic seal, and it hovers around 20 bucks. It’s a workhorse, built from materials that’ll keep it gliding through many a grind.

For a more tactile option, get Aerospaced’s grinder. The hand crank operates a set of blades, which chop up weed and filter it through a mesh screen. The clear lid allows you to monitor the entire operation.

If you’d call your personal style minimalist and refined, then here’s a grinder to match it. Made from aluminum alloy and unmarked with labels and logos, it is an accessory worthy of a high-class vape and top-grade flower.

Magic Flight’s grinder is part of its wooden Launch Box vape kit, fitting snugly over the opening of the vape so you can transfer freshly ground bud without a mess. If you’re looking for a beautifully carved, non-aluminum grinder (the grate is made from stainless steel) that’s part of a matched set—hell of a flex, right?—opt for this.

Phoenician medical-grade grinders get you a medium sheer on your weed—not too fine or too chunky. But more importantly, their grippy sides and deep bowls are intended to help users with arthritis (or folks with clumsy hands).

The Tectonic9 leans to the Inspector Gadget side of things. You put the weed into the chamber and grind it up, standard procedure. But accessing it is what is pretty damn nifty: That silver dispenser flips up from underneath the grinder and fits over a hole (which you manually open and close). Tip, and freshly ground herb neatly falls out.

The Pillar wasn’t built to be shoved in a junk drawer or lost under the couch. It glimmers, it is gold. Or rather, brushed brass. It’s a statement grinder if we’ve ever seen one. Besides aluminum grinding teeth and a scraper, the catch compartment is impressively spacious.

You get into spoil-yourself territory with the Santa Cruz Schredder. Known for its unique tooth design, it churns out perfectly ground, fluffy weed into a canister sealed with extra-strong magnets. You buy it once, then never have to worry about buying a grinder again.

Kannastör’s grinder is a mix-and-match marvel with extra storage options, two removable screens, and the option to break it down into a more portable size. Better yet, it comes with two interchangeable graters (hence the name) plates so you can pick your coarseness—fine or medium. Made with hardened aluminum in a matte design that looks real nice, it’ll last you.

Instead of aluminum or zinc alloy like most cheaper grinders, Iaso’s grinder is constructed out of stainless steel. That means the canister and its teeth will stay strong. Iaso also uses a special labyrinth seal design intended to prevent annoying binding or sticking. It’s a luxe option for sure.

Here’s where things get wild: an electric grinder. Eliminate user error altogether. The Otto automatically adjusts to the herb, sensing exactly what grind is required for the best results. Then, it funnels what it grinds directly into a paper cone for easy rolling (you can skip this step). Of course, then you’re stuck with machine error—charging, storage, maintenance, all that. Nevertheless, it’s a cool toy.

These 15 best weed grinders—most of them with four pieces to grind marijuana bud, sift pollen, and store the results—are available online and fit any budget.

Churchwarden pipe
A churchwarden pipe is a pipe with a long stem. Some churchwarden pipes can be as long as 16 inches (40 cm). In German the style is referred to as “Lesepfeife” or “reading pipe,” presumably because the longer stem allowed an unimpeded view of one’s book, and smoke doesn’t form near the reader’s eyes, allowing one to look down.
Such pipes were very popular as an Oriental influence from the 17th century onwards in Europe. They remained most popular in Eastern Europe, as an emblem of the “Hussars,” cavalry troops with roots in the Austro-Hungarian Empire, who went from Russia to France and England during the Napoleonic Wars and brought the pipes with them. It was even known as the “Hussar pipe” at the time. Engraved portraits exist of men smoking such an instrument. This long stem pipe type has its origins in the Ottoman Empire, geographically and historically.
Churchwarden pipes generally produce a cooler smoke due to the distance smoke must travel from the bowl to the mouthpiece. They have the added benefit of keeping the user’s face further away from the heat and smoke produced by combustion in the bowl. They are also more prone to breakage since more pressure is placed on the tenon when the pipe is supported around the mouthpiece. Long ago, churchwarden pipes were made of clay and were common in taverns, and sometimes a set of pipes would have been owned by the establishment and used by different clients like other service items (plates, tankards, etc.).
Churchwarden pipes were reputedly named after churchwardens, or night watchmen of churches in the time that churches never locked their doors. These “churchwardens” couldn’t be expected to go all night without a smoke, so they had pipes that were made with exceptionally long stems so the smoke and the pipe wouldn’t be in their line of sight as they kept watch. Also made popular by the Lord of the Rings trilogy, Churchwardens have become highly desirable in recent years.

Our teeth are designed to cut both ways, which include clearances on both sides of the teeth, but to cause it to consistently “FLUFF TO PERFECTION”

Easier Grip Means Easier Use

SANTA CRUZ SHREDDER prides itself as the best grinder available. Our “knurled” grip is much more pronounced than other grinders, improving hand and finger grip. You can see the superior grip pattern as well as feel how much easier it is to turn. This extremely gripable lid makes it that much easier to rotate the grinder, lowering the torque necessary to use our product and providing a “butter” smooth aromatherapy blend fluffing tool.

Not All Magnets are Created Equal

We don’t use “toy” magnets. Cheap magnets are weak, tend to fall out, and their protective coating flakes off into your aromatherapy blend. We use Neodymium Diametrically Magnetized Cylindrical Rare Earth Magnets. Nickel-Copper-Nickel triple layer coated for maximum durability and protection against abuse & corrosion. Our superior magnets provide a reliable lid closure system that prevents your aromatherapy blends from drying out, accidental spillage, and escaping odors. They are ISO Certified, top notch quality, provide superior performance, and guaranteed for life!

Tired of Scratches and Cross-Threading Problems?

Anodizing is the only way to go! Anodizing is an electrolytic passivation process use to create a strong protective coating for aluminum that prevents corrosion, wear resistance, and “galling” (failing) of threaded parts. After an acid bath we suspend them in special tanks that pass an electrical current through the item creating a strong protective surface. Anodizing changes the microscopic texture of the surface and changes the crystal structure of the aluminum near the surface. It not only bonds to the surface, but actually molecularly becomes the new surface. Raw aluminum is a soft material prone to even the tiniest scratches.

Our ultra-high quality grinders are the only ones truly scratch resistant, using aerospace anodizing techniques for protection. Comparable grinders are raw aluminum (unsanitary) which are highly susceptible to scratches, cross-threading, and are only polished to provide a temporary illusion of quality (also unsanitary). We offer Clear, Red and Black anodized finishes.

how to turn off joint

How to turn off joint

Want to roll a big fat cone joint? Here’s our step by step guide on how to roll a cone joint with Dutch filter tip.

Here is the technique the BushDoc uses to roll a Smokers’ Choice® filter tip. From there,he uses the “fill method”, or rolls forwards or backwards = “Dutch style”.

STEP 1

Tear out the tippy along it’s perforations!

STEP 2
Fold the “fins” of the filterlike this to create the blocker.

STEP 3
Roll it up, with the“fins” inside.

STEP 4
If you are rolling a cone you don’t add anything yet (go to step 5), otherwise lay out the paper and add the herbal mixture, putting the glue face up (for rolling forward) or glue face down (for rolling backward, see above).

STEP 5
Place the tippy at the end of the joint and tuck it in as you roll it between thumb and finger, making sure the tippy is tightly rolled into the paper so as not to slide out later. You can use the “pinch” method to hold the tip in place by squeezing firmly on it as you twist. Use a finger to “guide” the paper into position, keeping the glue strip flat against the paper, especially if you are rolling backwards.

STEP 6
If you chose to pre-roll a “cone”, then you wait until the paper is dry and pour the herbal mix in. Pack it down softly with a few taps on a hard surface and twist the top to keep it all nice and firmly rolled; it should stand straight up easily when held by the tip. Using a Smokers’ Choice® filter tip makes rolling a conical shape easier!

How to Smoke a Joint Like a Pro

With weed’s rapidly expanding legalization, a lot of people are trying it for the first time, or coming back to it after years or even decades of abstinence. However, many are still wondering how to smoke a joint- the most iconic method of consuming cannabis.

A joint is another name for a cannabis cigarette

Marijuana is the most commonly smoked substance in the world, after tobacco. Smoked cannabis is known under different names in different countries. For example, in Canada and in the United States, it is commonly referred to as a joint, while in the United Kingdom, it is known as spliff. A joint is another name for a cannabis cigarette. Depending on how big you want it, a joint can usually fit anywhere between a quarter of a gram and even up to an eighth of an ounce. A joint was one of the first ways that marijuana was smoked. Simply put, a joint is a rolled marijuana cigarette. It is often rolled with partially translucent papers – known as rolling papers – that lack the awful additives found in cigars and cigarettes. Everyone has their own preferences when it comes to rolling papers. However, going organic is always a good choice for those who aren’t too fond of inhaling paper smoke. Rolling papers can be made of a slew of healthy composites, including corn, plant cellulose, hemp, rice, flax seed, wood fibers or wood pulp. However, the interior of a joint is exclusively marijuana.

Rolling papers can be made of a slew of healthy composites, including corn, plant cellulose, hemp, rice, flax seed, wood fibers or wood pulp. However, the interior of a joint is exclusively marijuana.

Joints, spliffs, and blunts mean different things

There are many other ways to smoke weed apart from joints. The options are nearly limitless. There are three broad categories by which to delineate rolls – joints, spliffs, and blunts. A blunt is similar to a joint in that it only contains cannabis. However, blunts are rolled with tobacco paper. Alternatively, blunts can be created with a cleaned out cigar wrap. A blunt is basically a hollowed-out cigar which is filled with marijuana before being resealed. On the other hand, spliffs are essentially hybrid, with partly tobacco and partly cannabis. Spliffs mean different things in different regions. In Jamaica, a spliff is the same as a pure cannabis cigarette. In the United States and in Europe, it is a combination of marijuana and tobacco. One of the best things about spliffs is the tobacco scent adds a layer of smell that masks the odor of cannabis.

Rolling joints is an art

Even though the popularity of vaporization has excelled the art of rolling, the easily accessible and minimalist consumption method still reigns supreme globally. The creative potential and skill required to craft a functional roll is celebrated among many cannabis enthusiasts. The first joint you will ever roll is not likely to be perfect. It takes practice to get it down, so practice away. However, if you want a more immediate solution, you can purchase a pre-rolled joint, a roller or ask someone else to do it. The true test of a good joint is not how you roll it, but how well it burns. You want to make sure that it burns evenly around. You obviously don’t want to end up with a scraggly-looking cigarette with one half-burnt side.

Learn how to roll a joint

Every cannabis smoker should learn how to roll a joint. Begin by gathering your supplies, including cannabis strain of your choice, rolling papers, and a cannabis grinder. Break down your cannabis by giving it a good shake. If you don’t have a grinder, you can use your hands, scissors or any other methods. Make a crutch – start with a few accordion folds at the end of the cardboard before rolling it to the desired thickness of your joint. Fill the joint with the crushed cannabis. Once the paper has the right amount of marijuana, shape the joint with your fingers. After you’ve loaded your joint, pinch the paper between your fingertips and roll it back and forth to pack the cannabis down into its final shape. Tuck the unglued side of the paper into the roll and use the glued edge to tack down one end of the paper. You can use a pen to pack the end of the joint if you want an even burn. Your joint is now ready to be smoked.

Smoking joints is more enjoyable with a crutch

Also called a filled or a tip, a crutch is essentially a mouthpiece made of wood pulp or glass. It serves a number of purposes, such as keeping the end of your joint open, blocking bits of plant matter from getting in your mouth and ensuring you don’t burn your kisser as you puff your way down to the roach. The added distance between you and the roasting cherry prevents you from burning your fingers or lips. A crutch also helps in optimizing airflow by preventing the end from collapsing in on itself. The most favorite part is that joints rolled with crutches can be smoked to the very end.

Joint smoking etiquettes

The process of rolling joints is pretty straightforward, but there are some forms of joint smoking etiquette around the world. Cannabis lovers have a tight-knit society that follows loosely codified standards of behavior. If you break the rules, you won’t necessarily be sent to jail; you will just not be invited into another smoke session. You don’t want to get squeezed out for smoking joint like a rude, ill-mannered person.

Respect the rollers’ rights

It is commonly believed that the person who rolls the joint gets to spark it. However, it is acceptable for the roller to offer this privilege to someone else. But, they have full control over the ignition process.

Puff, puff, and pass

Remember the culture of puff, puff, pass. This is how it’s done in the U.S. and Canada. You get two puffs then it goes on to the next person. However, in Europe, they have the opposite rule. You are urged to smoke it comfortably for a bit, as long as you don’t get over-greedy. The culture of sharing is a beautiful and essential aspect of the cannabis community. Smoking weed together is a bonding and intimate experience.

Pass the joint to the left

There was a time when people insisted that you always pass to the left, but this is no longer much of a consideration. Nonetheless, it may happen that you encounter it now and again. It is a Rastafarian tradition where the people would pass their marijuana joint to the left in times of peace and to the right in times of war. Passing the joint to the left is also a logical process. The benefits of establishing a common rotation during a session is helpful once a few rounds have been completed and smokers start to forget things.

Don’t hold the weed

Don’t babysit the joint. This tends to happen when the joint comes to a person who is telling a story. Sometimes they are so engrossed in their story that they end up “camping” on the joint and forget to pass it (they are stoned, after all). This usually causes great agitation among the group as they watch the weed burn away until someone reminds the camper to pass it on.

Don’t wet the joint with your saliva

Don’t get soggy. No one likes the person who licks their lips before smoking, then gets the joint all soggy before passing it. Not only does this cause the joint to fall apart, but it’s just plain gross. Giving someone a mouth full of your saliva can certainly ruin the fun. Please be polite and at least wipe the mouthpiece before handing it off.

Blowing smoke in people’s face is gross

It is utterly rude and inconsiderate to blow smoke in people’s faces. Unless you’ve been invited to shotgun a joint, there is never a good reason to blow smoke on anyone’s face.

Sharing is caring

The whole point of a smoking circle is to share. Make sure you bring your own marijuana or joint to share with the group. However, if you can’t get your hands on some weed, bring the munchies or some beers. Smokers are known to be pretty easygoing.

Respect the space

House rules always reign supreme. If you are smoking at somebody’s house, please be respectful. This goes the same for hotels, parks or any other place. Being disrespectful of the place in which you are smoking means you are giving all pot smokers a bad reputation.

Inform your group when you are sick

If you are sick, but still want to participate, bring your own piece of joint. You must also let the group know about your sickness as a sign of respect.

Don’t pressurize your peer

Respect the person who doesn’t want to participate or who doesn’t like to smoke. Pissing contests have no place in any circle with proper etiquette. It is important to respect others’ limit and opinions.

glass filters for joints

How To Use A Glass Filter Tip

Nowadays, the art of rolling a good blunt or joint is at an all-time high due to an increase in popularity and accessibility. Just about every casual smoker knows how to roll one up or can get the right tools to roll, but even still, there’s a science behind getting the best smoking experience when smoking a joint. The solution is simple, it’s three words and something every casual smoker should have in their kit, a glass filter tip.

Now, before you go out to buy a random pack, it’s important you get the right ones and the best quality, because like any bong, rig, or pipe, the experience is only as good as what you smoke out of.

What Is A Glass Filter Tip?

For something seemingly easy to use, why are there so many brands out there, and what’s the difference? There are many brands in this competitive e-commerce and smoke industry where sellers seem to only care about copying trending products that guarantee a profit.

At Purr, we set ourselves apart because, in addition to being original designers & actual smokers, our glass tips are handmade right here in our own glassblowing studio. We’re part of the entire process ensuring the best and highest quality in every one of our products.

Our glass joint tips were inspired by vintage cigarette holders, with all the luxury and convenience of a product perfected years ago with the craftsmanship of today. Each glass tip is American made using a combination of thick, high-quality borosilicate glass, premium German Schott glass, or heady, small-batch colors. So you get the benefit of feeling & looking good while improving your smoking experience.

Just watching your hits filter through the clear glass can enhance your joint smoking experience but there are so many more benefits. We made sure that our joint and blunt holder designs cool and condense your smoke for the smoothest, easy to inhale hits. The filter tip also keeps the heat at bay so you get a slower, quality burn and can enjoy smoking the blunt all the way to the end without burned fingers, lips, waste, or smelly hands. We can’t decide if the best part of using a glass joint tip is that you avoid soggy paper filters & restricted hits or stop hot ash and resin from getting into your mouth?

How To Use A Glass Filter Tip

Using our glass tip is a simple process. You can use it on pre-rolled cones, blunts, joints, and cigarettes without filters.

To use with pre-rolls or a regular hand roll, you simply place your joint inside the glass tip Unlike the other tiny, single-use style rolling tips or paper filters, no special handling or rolling skills are required with our innovative designs. It’s important to make sure your joint has a snug fit to prevent any smoke leakage so you get the full hit with every puff you take.

When you want to smoke a bigger roll, you can alternatively roll your glass tip inside the paper or choose from our various larger filter sizes. It’s especially easy to use with larger blunts as a glass blunt tip or in application with creative rolling too.

Being made of glass they’re reusable & easy to clean.

How To Clean A Glass Filter Tip

Cleaning a glass filter tip may seem like a daunting task, especially if you have clumsy hands. But in fact, cleaning a glass filter tip is easier and faster than cleaning other types of glass pipes and accessories.

To properly clean a glass tip all you need is isopropyl alcohol, cotton swabs or bristled pipe cleaners, and a container to soak your glass tips.

The process usually takes less than 5 minutes and results in smoother, cleaner, and better-tasting hits.

The first step is to place your tip in the container and fill it up with alcohol until the tip is submerged. Then let it soak for about 5 minutes. Or for a quicker clean, simply cover one end of the glass tip with your finger, fill the tip with some rubbing alcohol and cover the other end with a finger to shake clean. And if your glass tip has a lot of resin or build-up, you can soak for longer periods of time until clean. Once cleaned with alcohol or your favorite glass cleaner, run the cotton swab or bristled pipe cleaner through the tip to get all the excess resin out. You can also use a cotton swab to easily spot treat any specific dirty areas.

Once cleaned, simply rinse the tip with warm water and dry them off before use. If you need more help with the cleaning instructions, you can watch our tutorial video. And because each glass filter tip is handcrafted with that American-made quality, maintaining it regularly is all you need to enjoy peak performance and make the tips last a lifetime.

Now that you know all about the Purr difference, enhance your pre-roll, joint, or blunt smoking experience with our widest selection of high-quality glass filter tips.

weed gives me a headache

Weed gives me a headache

It’s the headache you get when your marijuana buzz starts to come down.

The only ways to cure a weedache is to either smoke more weed or go to sleep. If you choose to smoke more weed then later on when that buzz wears off your weedache will be twice as bad.

One of the easiest ways to get a weedache is to get really high and then have to do something strenuous like work in the sun. Another way is to get high early in the day and then stay up all day and not get high any more, sorta similar to drinking alcohol early in the day and then coming off that buzz.

“I wake and baked like 5 hours ago and now I have this awful weedache.”

“I got high before I went to go pull shingles and that midday sun gave me a weedache.”

“After ripping that G-bong a couple times my head don’t hurt anymore.”

How to Conquer a Weed Hangover

Despite some debate over their validity, weed hangovers are likely real. While research on the subject is limited, anecdotal reports suggest that smoking marijuana can trigger next-day symptoms in some people.

Despite the similar names, weed hangovers aren’t quite the same as those brought on by alcohol. And for many, weed hangovers tend to be more tolerable than alcohol-related ones.

Common symptoms of a weed hangover include:

  • fatigue
  • lethargy
  • brain fog
  • dry eyes and mouth
  • headaches
  • mild nausea

Read on for tips on how to deal with these effects and to learn more about the debate within the medical community over whether weed hangovers are indeed a thing.

A weed hangover will typically go away on its own. There isn’t much you can do for an immediate fix, but these tips can offer relief:

  • Stay hydrated. The most important thing you can do before, during, and after weed use is drink enough water. This will help relieve symptoms such as headaches, dry mouth, and dry eyes.
  • Eat a nutritious breakfast. Opt for a healthy, balanced breakfast the morning after weed use. Try a small serving of whole-grain carbohydrates along with a lean source of protein and healthy fat.
  • Take a shower. A shower can help you to feel refreshed and hydrated the morning after smoking weed. The steam from a hot shower can open your airways.
  • Make some ginger tea.Ginger can help with digestive symptoms, such as nausea. Add a bit of grated ginger to hot water with lemon and honey to soothe an upset stomach.
  • Drink caffeine. A cup of coffee or caffeinated tea can help you feel more alert.
  • Try CBD. Some anecdotal reports suggest that cannabidiol (CBD) can counteract some of the symptoms associated with a weed hangover. Just steer clear of any preparations containing THC.
  • Take a pain reliever. For a persistent headache, take an over-the-counter pain reliever, such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) or acetaminophen (Tylenol).

If you can, try to take it easy for the rest of the day. With a good night’s rest, you should wake up feeling like yourself again.

If you’re feeling a little off after using weed, it may not necessarily be a hangover that you’re experiencing.

Here’s some other potential culprits:

  • Drinking alcohol or using other drugs while using weed. If you tend to consume other substances while smoking marijuana, they might affect how you feel the next morning.
  • Marijuana withdrawal. If you smoke weed on a regular basis, it’s possible to experience withdrawal symptoms when you aren’t smoking. Symptoms of marijuana withdrawal include changes in mood, insomnia, and difficulty focusing.
  • Lingering effects of weed. How long a weed high lasts depends on factors such as dose, concentration, and delivery method, in addition to your own tolerance and metabolism. Most of the time, a marijuana high lasts between one and four hours.

If at least five hours have passed since you last used weed, and you haven’t had any alcohol or used other substances, you’re likely just experiencing the after effects of weed.

There isn’t much evidence surrounding weed hangovers. Existing studies are often outdated or have major limitations.

Older studies

One well-known study on weed hangovers dates back to 1985. In the study, 13 males participated in a series of sessions that involved smoking either a weed cigarette or a placebo cigarette and then completing a series of tests.

The tests included sorting cards and judging time intervals. When the tests were repeated the following morning, the group that smoked weed cigarettes judged time intervals to be 10 or 30 seconds longer than they actually were.

The authors concluded that, although the day-after effects of smoking weed may be subtle, they probably exist. However, this study’s small sample size and all-male participants are significant limitations.

A 1990 study had similar limitations. It involved 12 male marijuana users who smoked marijuana over one weekend and a placebo over another, then completed a series of subjective and behavioral tests. But these authors concluded that weed didn’t seem to have much of an effect the following morning.

Recent research

More recently, a 2017 study explored perspectives toward medical cannabis among people with chronic pain. One of the self-reported undesirable effects of marijuana was a hangover described as a foggy, non-alert feeling in the morning.

However, the authors of the study did not indicate how many participants reported this effect.

A 2015 review on the use of medical marijuana recommends that healthcare professionals teach patients about the hangover effect. It also recommends describing it as lasting at least one day after the last time marijuana was used.

more research is needed

There are, of course, numerous anecdotal reports of marijuana hangovers, suggesting they are possible. More research needs to be done to understand causes, symptoms, and risk factors associated with weed hangovers as well as recommended self-care.

In addition, most of the studies described above focused on the morning-after effects of smoking a small amount of marijuana. Research exploring the effects of overconsumption is also needed.

The only way to guarantee you won’t have a weed hangover is to avoid weed. Still, there are plenty of things you can due to minimize the negative effects of weed.

  • Avoid smoking weed the night before an important activity. If you tend to experience weed hangovers, try to avoid using marijuana the night before something important, such as an exam or stressful day at work.
  • Take days off. If possible, avoid using weed on a daily basis. Continuous weed use can build up your tolerance, which might eventually trigger withdrawal symptoms in the morning.
  • Limit your use. You might be more likely to experience a weed hangover if you overconsume. Decide on an appropriate quantity before you get high, and stick with that.
  • Try low-THC marijuana. THC is the active ingredient in weed. No one’s totally sure how THC affects weed hangover symptoms, but it’s worth trying low-THC strains to see if they help prevent morning-after symptoms.
  • Use caution when trying a new product. You might find you react differently to weed depending on the dose, concentration, and method of delivery. When trying something for the first time, start with a low dose.
  • Don’t mix it with other substances. The morning-after effects of weed might be more intense if you tend to smoke weed while also drinking or using other drugs.
  • Talk to your healthcare provider about the effects of weed and medication. Remember that any over-the-counter or prescription medication you take can interact with weed. This could affect how you feel in the morning.

Contrary to popular belief, weed can be addictive. The more often you use it, the more likely you are to become dependent on it.

If you regularly experience weed hangovers, they could be a sign that you’re overdoing it. If you’re having a hard time curbing your use, it may be time to reach out to your doctor for help.

Other potential signs of weed misuse include:

  • using it on a daily or near-daily basis
  • experiencing cravings for it
  • spending a lot of time thinking about it or obtaining it
  • using more over time
  • using more than you intended
  • continuing to use it despite negative consequences
  • keeping a constant supply
  • spending a lot of money on it, even when you can’t afford it
  • avoiding situations or places where you can’t use it
  • driving or operating machinery while high
  • trying and failing to stop using it
  • experiencing withdrawal symptoms when you stop

"Weed hangover" is a casual term used to refer to the lingering effects of weed. We'll offer some tips for relief, take a look at the research behind this phenomenon, and give you some guidance on how to prevent them in the future.
